"Some books are to be tasted, other to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested."
Francis Bacon
Cooking and eating good food was obviously
one of the great pleasures of Essie Summers' life. This is reflected in her novels where her heroines (with one notable exception!)
are all capable and often excellent cooks. Consider Prudence Sinclair, a culinary expert who astounded Hugo Macallister with
the delicious meals she prepared ("Where No Roads Go"). On this site I would like to assemble recipes for some of the dishes
that she talks about, both so I can keep track of them myself and so that others can share them. I will also be including
some of my favourite recipes, and links to other recipe and cooking sites that I enjoy (particularly with a New Zealand bent).
So sit down with a cuppa while you browse through the recipes. I hope you enjoy your visit here.
If you have any recipes from Essie's
books that you would like to contribute to this site, I would love to hear from you. Or perhaps you tried a recipe and would
like to let me know how it turned out. Maybe you have suggestions on how to improve on one. Any imput is welcome. Just join
my group at the link below and post a message. I hope to hear from you soon!
